Microsoft confirmed rumors Monday morning by announcing the next entry in its popular Halo franchise of first-person shooters.
At its E3 press conference, the company announced Halo 4, the first game in the main Halo series to not be developed by series creator Bungie, instead being helmed by its internal studio 343 Industries.
Halo 4 is "the dawn of a new trilogy for Xbox 360," Microsoft's Don Mattrick said of the new title, suggesting a long shelf life for the nearly six-year-old console.
The announcement follows news that the company will release a remastered version of the original Halo.
